Marc Jacobs Fall 2011 RTW

So, have you guys seen Marc Jacobs’ new fall collection? What did you think? Here are some of my thoughts…

First of all, Marc Jacobs hired 63 models for his fall presentation during New York Fashion Week. He also had 1, 100 yards of vinyl shipped in from California to New Jersey, and had it turned into 20 foot columns. Five hundred people attended this show including guests Vanessa Hudgens, Whoopi Goldberg (who according to Elle’s Joe Zee dressed like Ben Franklin), and even Fergie and her husband. By the way, the show only happened to last a few short minutes. And, guess how much this all cost? About a million dollars! Jacobs’ business partner even told the New York Times that it might have cost even more.

Well, to the actual clothes…

His inspiration came from many sources as he used a lot of pencil skirts, 40s silhouettes with a hint of 1970s inspiration, and padded jackets with large sleeves. There were tons of polka dots, latex, and lace. Jacobs revealed that this form fitting collection was made to break free from the loose and fluid feeling of his spring collection.

I honestly have mixed feelings about it. After viewing the collection and speaking with one of my teachers and peers, I’ve come to realize that the collection may look pretty neat, but it’s not practical. The pencil skirts are too long, and they will have to be shortened. It makes me wonder if he’s trying to bring us back to hobble skirts? Also, the collection has a bit of a Louis Vuitton look to it. It’s very dressy, and Marc Jacobs (the brand) isn’t usually made like that; it’s usually sportier. Other than that though, I liked it. I’m not much of a polka dot person, but I love the lace.

I wish the best for him!
