Antlers.

Now I know antlers have been in for a little while now, but I found so many captivating young artists inspired by designers and their use of them...

Alexander Mcqueen Resort 2012

For some reason Sarah Burton seems to have a liking with bustles:]

This look is from the Alexander Mcqueen Resort 2012 collection

And this is from the Mcqueen Resort 2011 Collection

These are just some more looks that I love and appreciate as amazing inspiration for my own work.
Again from the Resort 2012 collection.

Going back very quickly to the 2011 collection; I used this dress to draw for a final (Design Sketching II) but I used a different print!:]

Bill Cunningham New York

So yesterday I saw Bill Cunningham New York with the fashion club:]

I thought that Bill was such a genuine and incredible person in his own unique and suttle way. He really was an inspiration for being a optimistic person and not caring what others thought, but there were certain specific things in the movie that stood out to me...

First, that his life was fashion. It was clothes and nothing else. He didn't care about relationships. He didn't care about celebrities. Hah, he even said in the movie that Dita Von Teese was at an event, and someone thought he was an idiot for being the only person with a camera there not taking a picture of her. But, he just replied with, "I'm not a paparazzi photographer; I only care about the clothes and she wasn't wearing anything interesting." Haha, I thought that was great; plus the fact that he photographed everyone from couture and runways to the people straight from the streets.

Second, even Anna Wintour, who was interviewed for this documentary, was in awe of even talking about this man. In one section of the movie, in a crowd of paparazzi, she only stopped for him to take a photo of her. Wow! What an impact!

Third and lastly, that he was just a normal and cheerful guy, living a simple life as a photographer doing what he loved to do. Even at his own party/event he was having, a person had asked him why he was working because he was still taking pictures. He was like, "I'm not. This is my fun time." There is so much more I could say about the movie, but I'm just glad to say and know for a fact that people in the world such as Bill exist. :]]

Homework

Here are just a couple drawings & projects that I've done for homework in this quarter and last...

It's funny because I haven't really posted any of my work at FIDM online until the other day because, well, first of all it's just homework.. & second of all as an artist I've noticed that my friends and I always find something wrong with our work and it makes us skeptical as to whether we should even show people..

Just thought it was funny, but anyways enjoy:]

Marc Jacobs Fall 2011 RTW

So, have you guys seen Marc Jacobs’ new fall collection? What did you think? Here are some of my thoughts…

First of all, Marc Jacobs hired 63 models for his fall presentation during New York Fashion Week. He also had 1, 100 yards of vinyl shipped in from California to New Jersey, and had it turned into 20 foot columns. Five hundred people attended this show including guests Vanessa Hudgens, Whoopi Goldberg (who according to Elle’s Joe Zee dressed like Ben Franklin), and even Fergie and her husband. By the way, the show only happened to last a few short minutes. And, guess how much this all cost? About a million dollars! Jacobs’ business partner even told the New York Times that it might have cost even more.

Well, to the actual clothes…

His inspiration came from many sources as he used a lot of pencil skirts, 40s silhouettes with a hint of 1970s inspiration, and padded jackets with large sleeves. There were tons of polka dots, latex, and lace. Jacobs revealed that this form fitting collection was made to break free from the loose and fluid feeling of his spring collection.

I honestly have mixed feelings about it. After viewing the collection and speaking with one of my teachers and peers, I’ve come to realize that the collection may look pretty neat, but it’s not practical. The pencil skirts are too long, and they will have to be shortened. It makes me wonder if he’s trying to bring us back to hobble skirts? Also, the collection has a bit of a Louis Vuitton look to it. It’s very dressy, and Marc Jacobs (the brand) isn’t usually made like that; it’s usually sportier. Other than that though, I liked it. I’m not much of a polka dot person, but I love the lace.

I wish the best for him!

STYLE

Hey guys! Well first post and I’m going to begin with the basics..

So lately, the word “style” has been thrown around a lot. What is my style, your style, and what even defines what a style is?

According to Dictionary.com, style is referred to as “a particular kind, sort, or type, as with reference to form, appearance, or character: the baroque style.”

According to my Business of Fashion teacher, a style is “a characteristic or distinctive appearance of a garment.”

And well according to me, a style is really just a way to express yourself through one of the most popular ways, what you wear. It can also refer to how you talk, present yourself, and what you are interested in and passionate about.

Now, to the main point of all this…what is my style? That’s why I made this blog in the first place right? To showcase it, or at least partly.

My style to be honest is hard to define, even for me!

My best friend defines my style as if you took a blank white canvas and splattered paint all over it. I’m a mixture of a lot of things. So many things inspire me, I can’t help it! And you know what, I love it all.

I hope through this blog you guys will begin to see what I’m passionate about, and what really defines my style and personality.
